ABOUT

Hi! My name is Amanda Zhang and I'm 30 years old.

During the final year of my Bachelor of Arts degree at St. Thomas University, I wrote this to a friend:

Confession: When I've thought about what I want to do for the rest of my life, I often think, 'I just want to be whimsical.'

In May 2011, I graduated from STU with a major in English. I began blogging that summer. Then I returned to STU for another year and graduated with a Bachelor of Education.

In August 2012, I moved to China and have been living and teaching in Beijing since then.

Things I like include: Tea, coffee, and lattes—overpriced caffeinated beverages are my favourite guilty pleasure. Eating outside. Sunshine. Rain. Spring and Fall. Shouting—the happy kind, not the angry kind. Parenthood, Scandal, The Newsroom, and Girls. Libraries. Waking up and realizing I still have time left to sleep. Mail—the old-fashioned snail kind. Exclamation points!

Things I don't like include: Pollution—ahem, Beijing. The feeling of chalk. Sandy feet. Humidity. The sound of my alarm clock. (It's a lot harder to think of things I don't like than things I do like.)

I began sunshine and whimsy because I wanted to keep and share a record of my life and the things that make me happy. This includes my adventures in China, what I'm reading and listening topoems and quotes, and a bunch of other stuff

I thought blogging might help me figure life out and find my people. I hoped sunshine and whimsy might help other people figure life out and find their people, too.

Thank you for visiting! If you're people (or you have a question or comment), I'd love to hear from you! Email me (amandazhang24 [at] gmail.com) or find me on Twitter (@ajizhang).

P.S. This took an awkwardly long time to write. Oops.
